Shane is one of British Railway's largest and strongest tender engines, who is pompous, but gentle, and prefers the quiet countryside to the constant noise of industry. He is also one of the fastest and strongest engines on the railway. As of 2020, he holds the record of "The Engine With No Accidents Within 95-100 Years".

Biography Edit

Shane was built at Swindon Works in 1923 as a prototype to the 9F locomotive class after his oringinal blueprints (SR West Country and Battle of Britain) were stolen and new ones were printed out and given to Robert A. Riddles. In 1925 he bought by British Railways after Flying Scotsman blew his safety valve during a test run. Upon his arrival, he was stubborn and rude towards the other engines. He was like this until he had to pull a Double Header with Scotsman and broke down, Scotsman was forced to pull Shane and the train. After that, his attitude changed for the better but he was still vain. In 1954 he was given a rebuild to match the specifications of the rest of his class. In 1960, he held a prejudice against the twin diesels Chitteran and Bubble fearing that they would steal their jobs. This Continued when Den, a class 08 diesel shunter arrived. In December of 1977, Shane brought The Controller to the screening of Star Wars. 20 years later he and Scotsman brought him to the premiere of Titanic.

Personality Edit

Shane is proud, pompous and self-important, with a good reason too; he is the one of fastest engines on the railway behind Flying Scotsman. He is extremely proud of this and is inclined to boast. But despite his pompousness, he is goodhearted, always willing to forgive and and will help the smaller engines out of trouble. Though he is also vengeful and will plot retribution if he feels he has been sufficiently slighted, as mentioned before he is happy to forgive especially after he has either had his retribution or the individual has received some other comeuppance. He also has a substantial hatred and checkered past of goods trains and troublesome trucks. At times he can be shallow, boastful, cynical, smug and vain, particularly to those who appear old-fashioned, weak, slow or dirty, particularly with most diesels. However, on a number of occasions, he has found himself in need of help from those who he's insulted and is, in the end, sorry for his actions. He can often be found seeking peace and quiet, away from the bustle of the yards and the Docks. Although he can get short of patience and a little annoyed if he does not get some alone time, he can be quite a reserved engine.

Livery Edit

Shane is panted in BR brunswick green with a Cycling Lion crest on his tender.
